FAQ's
Frequently Asked Quesitons
Who qualifies for weight loss medications?
We can't guarantee weight loss medication prescriptions for everyone. Eligibility typically depends on meeting specific criteria, including age, weight, and associated health conditions. This may include:
Obesity (BMI > 30)
Overweight individuals (BMI > 27) with related health issues like hypertension, type 2 diabetes, etc.
Those seeking maintenance therapy with a BMI > 22 and a history of obesity or related health problems. Ultimately, eligibility is determined by your healthcare provider's assessment.
Do you accept insurance?
Currently, our program does not fall under insurance coverage for virtual visits. However, some insurance plans may cover other aspects of medical weight loss treatment, such as lab testing and prescription weight loss medication. We advise checking with your insurance provider to determine the extent of coverage for these services.
What are GLP-1 medications?
GLP-1 medications regulate appetite, aiding in weight loss of up to 15% over a year with lifestyle changes. They're often prescribed for diabetes and obesity, alongside diet and exercise. Common examples include Semaglutide (Wegovy®, Rybelsus®, Ozempic®) and Liraglutide (Victoza®, Saxenda®). During your consultation, your provider will assess your needs and discuss medication options.
Who should avoid taking a GLP-1 medication for weight loss?
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, or actively trying to conceive
End-stage kidney disease (on dialysis or about to start)
End-stage liver disease (cirrhosis)
Active or history of eating disorders (bulimia, anorexia, etc.)
Current or history of suicidal thoughts or attempts
Undergoing cancer treatment or have an active diagnosis
History of pancreatitis
Organ transplant history and currently on anti-rejection medication
Severe gastrointestinal conditions like gastroparesis or inflammatory bowel disease
Personal or family history of specific cancers or genetic conditions
These criteria may not cover all situations, so it's crucial to discuss your circumstances with your healthcare provider for a thorough evaluation.
Do I need to have lab work done before starting the program?
During your initial visit, your provider will order lab work to assess your eligibility for our program and determine the most effective medications for your weight management. Tests usually include a CMP, HgbA1C, TSH, and lipid panel. If you've had these tests in the past year, your provider may skip them. Regular lab tests may be required to monitor medication response and ensure safety.
How much weight can I expect to lose with a GLP-1 medication?
Weight loss outcomes differ based on factors like starting weight, medical conditions, lifestyle changes, and prescribed medication type. Many using GLP-1 meds for over 68 weeks report up to 15% weight reduction with lifestyle changes. Medications combining GLP-1 and GIP agonists show an average 20% weight reduction.
